Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease where the immune system damages the myelin that protects nerves. This disrupts communication between the brain and body, causing symptoms such as vision problems, pain, fatigue, and difficulty walking.
Common Symptoms of MS
- Tremors and poor coordination
- Anxiety and depression
- Fatigue and “brain fog”
- Bladder or bowel problems
- Speech and swallowing issues
- Nerve and muscle pain
- Vision changes such as double vision
Types of MS
- Relapsing Remitting MS (RRMS): flare-ups followed by recovery.
- Secondary Progressive MS (SPMS): steady worsening after RRMS.
- Primary Progressive MS (PPMS): continuous decline from onset.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Diagnosis involves MRI scans, medical history, and neurological exams. While there is no cure, treatments such as disease-modifying therapies, corticosteroids, and symptom-relief medications can help manage MS and slow progression.
